BLOUNTSTOWN- The Blountstown Tigers opened the 2022 season in a big way with a 54-20 win over the Freeport Bulldogs. The Tigers scored early and often putting up 28 points in the first quarter including a score on their opening possession going 64 yards in 6 plays with Tristan Jones scoring on a 23-yard reception from Josh Pope. After a Freeport punt and a Blountstown turnover, the Tiger defense scored with a 15-yard interception return by a Taiveon Crumitie. Blountstown’s next possession was short but productive with a two-play drive capped off with an Amarion Hover 49-yard run. Another three-and-out punt by Freeport gave the Tigers the ball back with less than a minute in the first quarter and it only took one play for the Tigers to score with a 49-yard reception by Aidan Richards from Pope giving the Tigers the lead at 28-0 to end the first quarter.

Freeport got on the board in the second quarter with a long 14 play drive scoring on a 4th and Goal pass play from the 5-yard line. Blountstown kept the pressure on scoring on their next possession on a seven-play drive with Bryant Washington finding the paint from 6-yards out giving the Tigers the 35-7 halftime lead.
The second half opened with a Freeport punt and another quick score for Blountstown on a three-play drive finished off with a 1-yard Hover run giving the Tigers the 41-7 lead. This opened the way for some young Tigers to enter the field. After a 34-yard TD run by Freeport, the Tigers answered right away on the ensuing kickoff with a 96-yard Elam Johnson return extending the lead to 47-13 at the end of the third quarter.
Each team scored in the last period with Freeport scoring on a short drive on a 4th and Goal 4-yard reception. Blountstown finished the scoring on a 4-play drive with Jayce Copeland scoring from 13-yards out pushing the final score to 54-20.
Blountstown’s offense put up 410 yards on 39 plays for an average of 10.5 yards per play. QB Josh Pope finished the night 3-5 passing for 78 yards with 2 TD’s and an INT.
Amarion Hover led the Tiger rushing attack with 149 on 9 carries with 2 TD’s and a 2-point conversion. Elam Johnson added 55 yards on 3 carries. Tristan Jones, Jamarion Engram and Jayce Copeland chipped in 29, 24 and 21 yards apiece. Aidan Richards caught 2 passes for 55 yards with a TD and T. Jones added the other reception for a 23-yard score. Christian Martinez connected on 3-6 XP attempts with Josh Pope going 1-1.
The Tiger defense limited the Bulldogs to 141 total yards on 57 plays including 33 pass attempts. The Tigers also recorded 12 tackles for loss. Amarion Hover led the Tigers with 7 tackles. Bryant Washington finished with 5 tackles. Bryheem Washington, Kelvin Anderson and Taiveon Crumitie chipped in 4 tackles apiece with Crumitie adding a pick six. Yanti Miller finished with two QB sacks with De’Ante Reed adding another.
Blountstown (1-0) will travel this THURSDAY night to Panama City to take on the Rutherford Rams (0-1). Rutherford lost to Chipley last week 41-0. The game will take place at Tommy Oliver Stadium.
