Calhoun County Superintendent of Schools Darryl Taylor, Jr., has announced that the Calhoun County School District (CCSD) has selected the 2024 Teacher and School-Related Employee of the Year for the school district.  Blountstown High School math teacher Drew Willis was named Teacher of the Year while Ja’marius Engram, a paraprofessional with the CARE school, was selected as the School Related Employee of the Year.

Willis served as an intern teacher from August 2020 through November 2020 at Carr Elementary & Middle School teaching math in grades 6-8.  From January 2021 to present, Willis has been at Blountstown High School where he facilitates math instruction for students in grades 8-12.  He develops standards-based lesson plans, utilizes assessment data to guide and differentiate instruction, and collaborates with his colleagues.

Willis majored in Educational Leadership and is expected to earn his Masters Degree in Education in April of this year.  He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Chipola College in 2020 majoring in Middle School Mathematics Education.

Willis, in addition to being the Math Department  head since August 2023, presently serves as the BHS Cross Country team, Junior Class sponsor, and School Advisory Council Chair.

“I chose to be an educator because I believe in the future of this next generation.  To me, education is like a lock and key.  Each student entering my classroom door possesses a unique key, and with  guidance, can unlock doors to a world of endless opportunities.  Sure, I could have chosen another career and earned more money, but for me, no amount of money can ever replace the happiness that my students bring me,” Willis said when commenting on what inspires him as an educator.

Tracy Wood, Principal at Blountstown High School shared this about Drew Willis in her letter of recommendation.  “Mr. Willis is extremely disciplined, intelligent, sincere, hardworking, competitive, and very motivated. “
