WILDCATS SWEEP WARRIORS; DOWN DOGS

BY JIM McINTOSH ALTHA, JANUARY 21–The Wildcats brought their brooms into The Den last Thursday night and completed their season sweep of the Aucilla Christian Warriors last night. The Altha’s Junior Varsity (4-9) took care of business as they posted a 29-21 win. Ryan Wood was the Top Cat in scoring with 10 points. Also, he had 2 rebounds and 2 steals. Kent Rogers knocked down 8 points, was co-leader along with Jeremy O’Bryan in rebounds with 5, led the team with 3 assists and he nabbed a steal. Jae Fielder scored 3 points the old fashioned way and he grabbed a rebound. Caleb Chew, P.J. Iler, Tyler McClellan and Jeremy O’Bryan all added a deuce apiece. O’Bryan led the team with 2 blocks and he had 2 steals. Chew cleared 4 rebounds, collected 2 assists and picked the Warriors’ pockets twice. McClellan pulled down 2 rebounds and he had an assists. Iler showed quick hands as he stole 2 passes in the open court. The Varsity Wildcats (5-8; 4-6, Class 1A, District 2) followed the JV’s lead by picking up their fourth district win on the season, 49-39. Leading the way offensively was Tyler Hamilton who put up 14 points and he cleared a team-high 7 rebounds. Also, “T Ham” collected 2 steals and an assist. Ethan Ellis and Will Rogers were money with 11 points apiece, including a 3-pointer by each of them. Also, they had 3 steals apiece. Ellis grabbed 2 rebounds and an assist. Rogers and Jacob Warner were the co-leaders in assists with 4. Rogers also snagged a rebound. Carl Mantecon canned 5 points and snared a rebound. Both Jacob Warner and Terry Wyllie added 4 points each. Warner collected 2 steals and swatted away a shot attempt. Wyllie pulled down a career-high 4 rebounds and he had an assist. ALTHA, JANUARY 22–They were down but not out. Not with a Den full of crazy homecoming fans last Friday night urging them to overcome a 14-9 halftime deficit! The Junior Varsity Wildcats (5-9) responded with their best defensive effort of the season and nipped the Liberty County Bulldogs, 26-24. Ryan Wood was the Top Cat in scoring with 9 points as well as 5 rebounds. He also had 2 steals and rejected a shot attempt. Kent Rogers cashed in 6 points (including a 3-pointer), grabbed 4 rebounds, tallied 2 assists, had a steal and blocked his first shot attempt of the season. Tyler McClellan chalked up 5 points. Caleb Chew chipped in 2 points along with an assist and a steal. The Varsity Wildcats (6-8) found out that dreams do come true as they downed the Bulldogs, 40-35, which was their second sweep of a team in as many nights. They have now won 5 of their last 6 games. Will Rogers led all scorers with 14 points (including 2 3-pointers). Also, he had 5 rebounds, an assist and a steal. Jacob Warner knocked down 12 points, was co-leader with Anthony Young in steals with 5 and pulled down 2 rebounds. Ethan Ellis was money with 7 points, led the Wildcats with a career-high 6 rebounds, nabbed 3 steals and swatted away a shot attempt. Tyler Hamilton cashed in 5 points and pulled down 4 rebounds. Terry Wyllie chipped in 2 points, snared 2 rebounds, had 2 steals and was credited with an assist. Last Monday and Tuesday both Wildcats’ teams put their three-game winning streak on the line against Bethlehem and Wewahitchka. Next Tuesday they will travel to Bethlehem for a 6 pm Junior Varsity contest and the Varsity game is scheduled to get underway at 7:30 pm . GO WILDCATS!!!
