When the 1960’s band The Villagers take the stage in Blountstown on August 13th for a fund raising project presented by Saving Downtown Blountstown, lead singer Cliff Ellis and the band will rekindle fond memories. From 1963 to 1968, the band performed at the Legion Hall on Hwy. 20 at least 50 times.
Ellis would later become the Head Basketball Coach at Cumberland University and has coached at South Alabama, Clemson, Auburn, and now at Coastal Carolina where he has compiled a record of 817 wins and 540 losses in his career. He’s a member of three Halls of Fame after entering Clemson’s in 2013. He currently ranks 3rd in NCAA Division 1 wins among active coaches and as of the end of the 2021-22 season is the all-time leader in NCAA Division 1 wins for basketball coaches who have coached in the state of South Carolina. So, he can not only sing, but he can coach basketball equally as well.
