Two Altha baseball players receive academic awards

Josh McIntosh of Altha was one of two Lurleen B. Wallace Community College baseball players who recently received academic awards from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). McIntosh and his teammate, Chris Barrentine of Newton, Ala., both earned the Award for Superior Academic Achievement, which recognizes athletes for maintaining a grade point average of 3.8-3.99 on a 4.0 scale. “We congratulate both of these young men,” said LBWCC Baseball Coach Steve Helms. “Their achievements in the classroom are proof of the hard work and dedication they put into their education. They both have bright futures and we are extremely proud of how they represented our program during the past two years.” McIntosh, LBWCC Saints baseball outfielder for the past two years, is transferring to Florida State University in the fall where he will continue his degree in Sports Medicine. He was salutatorian of the Altha High School class of 2008 and is the son of Jim and Miriam McIntosh of Altha.
