Tigers will host Madison Co. in second round of playoffs

The Blountstown Tigers hosted the Jay Royals Friday night at Bowles Field in the first round of the Rural State Playoffs. After a slow start, the Tigers turned the offense on and cruised to another one- sided victory, 38-0. The win pushed the Tigers’ record to 10-0 and sets up a rematch with Madison County who defeated the Tigers in last year’s second round, 43-6. The Cowboys are the defending state champi- ons and have a record this year of 6-5 after defeating Chipley, 43-8 in their first round game.

Madison County has another talented team this year, losing to some much larger schools. This will be a strong test for the Tigers on offense and defense. A packed stadium will be important for the Tigers as they dial in on the task at hand.

Blountstown has outscored its opponents 546-84 in ten games this season. None of that matters now.

Quarterback Jaylen Jones has had a stellar season completing 64 of 94 passes for 1,313 yards and 23 touchdowns. He also added 8 touchdowns rushing.

Amari Thomas has been the workhorsee this sea- son rushing for 1,496 yards on 89 carries and 17 touchdowns. He added two touchdowns on pass receptions. Kayin Martin has 355 yards and 5 TD’s on 30 carries and Curt Ellis added 293 yards on 23 carries with 5 touchdowns.

Demarkus Roberts emerged as the leading receiver with 26 recepetions for 585 yards and 11 touchdowns. Ellis caught 17 passes for 317 yards and 6 scores. Randy Moore had 11 catches for 144 yards and 4 TD’s.

The Blountstown defense will be called upon to find ways to slow down the Cowboy’s strong offense. Bowles Field will be rocking Friday night so get there early and never quit screaming. Go Tigers!!
