BY COACH EMORY HORNEThe Blountstown High School baseball team began district play this week and went 2-0. The Tigers beat Franklin County on Tuesday by a score of 8-3. Colby Mullins, Jordan Sweinhart, and Tanner Peacock led the 11-hit attack with two hits each. Tootie Wood hit a two-run homerun in the top of the first. Jesse Hall and Brandon Purvis each had two R.B.I.’s. Mullins started the game on the hill going 3.1 innings, allowing two hits, walking four and striking out eight. Taylor Mauck picked up the win in relief going 2.2 innings, giving up one hit, walking one and striking out one. On Friday night, the Tigers played South Walton in a great pitching matchup. The Tigers won 3-0 behind a strong pitching performance by Hunter Jordan. Jordan got the win going 6.1 innings, allowing five hits, walking three and stuck out eight. Tootie Wood picked up the save by recording the final two outs in the seventh. Taylor Mauck led the Tigers offensively by collecting three hits in three attempts with a triple in the first. Wood had two hits, and Rontravious Brown drove in a pair of R.B.I.’s with a clutch single in the bottom of the fifth. The Tigers are now 5-1 on the season and 2-0 in district. The junior varsity Tigers won on Monday night by a score of 9-8 and again on Friday by a score of 4-1, with strong pitching by Tripp Taylor and Ridge Dietz. The J.V. team is now 3-0 on the year. The Tigers will be at home on Thursday against Holmes County and on the road at Liberty County on Friday. Hope to see you at the games. GO TIGERS!
