Suspect arrested after high speed motorcycle chase

On Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at approximately 1829 hours, Deputy Ayers was conducting routine traffic enforcement within the area of the Mossy Pond Community.

During this time, Deputy Ayers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a motorcycle for a traffic violation.  Subsequently, the motorcycle fled for approximately five miles, reaching speeds in excess of 90 MPH throughout the Mossy Pond area.

While traveling east on CR-274, Investigator Norris and Deputy Earnest began to assist Deputy Ayers in the pursuit.  Subsequently, the driver of the motorcycle abandoned the motorcycle in the ditch and began to run the woods.

While running through the woods, a taser was used to subdue the suspect.  After the successful taser deployment, the suspect was identified as Christopher Scott Laferte.  It was discovered that Laferte had an active arrest warrant out of Jackson County.

While searching Laferte, deputies located methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in his pocket.

Deputy Ayers found probable cause to charge Laferte with being in violation of the following Florida State Statutes:

• F.S.S. §316.1935(3)(a) – Flee from marked vehicle with lights/siren active (high speed

• F.S.S. §322.34(2) – Knowingly driving while license suspended

• F.S.S. §322-03-(4) – No motorcycle endorsement

• F.S.S. §316.192(1)(a) – Reckless driving (disregard for safety)

• F.S.S. §320.02(1) – Failure to register vehicle

• F.S.S. §843.02 – Resist officer without violence

• F.S.S. §893.13(6)(a) – Possession of methamphetamine

• F.S.S. §893.147(1) – Possession of drug paraphernalia
