ROY DALLON MONTFORD

Roy Dallon Montford of Selma, California, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2009, after an extended illness. Born to Jess and Ella Mae (Goodman) Montford on Oct. 17, 1923, he was raised and educated in Calhoun County. During World War II, he served in the Navy with the Pacific Fleet. Following discharge from the Navy, he settled in the Tacoma, Washington, area where he worked for the Air Force Civil Service, assigned to Boeing Plants. After retiring from Civil Service, he worked as director of transportation for the school system while maintaining a farm and a blacksmith business. Later, with his children grown, he and his wife relocated to Selma, California, to be near grandchildren. He dearly loved children and animals and they loved him. Roy also loved his extended family and often returned to Calhoun County to attend the Montford and Goodman reunions. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Ella Mae Montford; two sisters, Annie Belle Alford and Mary Elizabeth Carter; and one brother, James Montford. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, June Prindle Montford; two daughters, Karen Lewis of Lakewood, Washington, and Karleen Locklear of Selma, California; two sons, James Kennedy Montford of Exeter, New Hampshire, and Kevin Montford of Paris, Tennessee; seven grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. He was a member of the  First Christian Church Disciples of Christ of Selma, California, where a memorial service is scheduled today, Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 11 a.m. Pacific time. Arrangements are under the direction of Page’s Funeral Chapel of Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Panhandle Pioneer Settlement, 17869 NW Pioneer Settlement Road, Blountstown, Florida 32424.
