Rhett Turner signs with Cumberland

by Coach Jimmy Rogers

On Monday July 25, Rhett Turner signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Cumberland University. He joins his teammate Trace Mears at Cumberland.

Rhett, a 6’4” guard averaged 8.5 ppg, 11.7 rpg and 3.5 apg this past season for the Wildcats. Rhett also received accolades over his defensive prowess.

“Rhett and Trace both will be nice assets for the Phoenix. Both are very athletic, 17 years old and will continue to develop at the next level. I am proud of them and it was a pleasure to work with them and see them develop.” added Coach Rogers.

“It is unusual to have two sign at a small school and possibly three still playing out of high school next season. At a school that does not offer football, it allows us to implement fundamentals and a jump program where if a kid has the ability, it nurtures their development. It also allows us to implement a sports specific weight program and I am grateful to have an outstanding weightlifting coach in Robbie Joe Smith that our kids are developed in the weight room. We are blessed.” concluded Coach Rogers.
