Petitions out to fight for at-large voting

A group of motivated Calhoun Countians are not giving up on fighting for the right to vote for all county commissioners, regardless of where they reside. Jim Pruette, who heads the Calhoun-Liberty Patriots, says petitions have been placed in several local businesses so residents can sign in support of countywide voting. The at-large voting option was approved by a vast majority of voters back in the late 90s, however, the decision was not upheld. Those in favor of at-large voting believe every commissioner votes for issues that impact the entire county, thus the entire county should be able to choose the representatives. Citizens against countywide voting puts minorities at an unfair disadvantage. Businesses with petitions on hand include Connie’s Kitchen, Quick Pic, Diamond Corner, Holley Outdoors, and Rivertown Auto Sales.
