Peggy Co selected as BHS Homecoming Parade Grand Marshal

Blountstown High School is pleased to announce the selection of Mrs. Peggy Cox as Grand Marshall of the 2022 BHS Homecoming Parade.

Mrs. Cox grew up in Grand Ridge, FL, and graduated from high school in 1963. She moved to Blountstown in 1968, when she married Mr. Jimmy Cox.

Mrs. Cox has obtained degrees from Chipola College (A.A.), Troy University (B.S.), and Florida State University (M.S.).

She is mother to one son, one daughter, a son-in-law, and two grandsons.

Mrs. Cox taught English, Speech, and Journalism for 34 years, all but two of which were at Blountstown High School. During the last several years, she spent time as an adjunct instructor for Chipola, teaching ENC 1101 and ENC 1102.

Mrs. Cox has also been involved with Blountstown United Methodist Church for many years, primarily in music. “One of the joys of my life here has been singing in the choir. I have volunteered at The Pioneer Settlement, and other organizations through the years.” She has also sung at countless weddings and funerals.

“Teaching was a wonderful career for me. I loved the subject I taught as well as my students. So many people impacted my life in positive ways in those years. I will only mention a couple here, my close colleagues in the English department, Gail McCaskill, and Betty McClellan. I am friends today with many of my former students and I love seeing the productive lives they lead. Now I depend on many of these students to fix my car, take care of my medical needs, build projects, run local government…the list goes on!

Teaching is not an easy job, but my goal was always excellence. I wanted our students from Blountstown to have writing and language skills they needed for college or vocations.”

The Blountstown High School would like to thank Mrs. Cox for her continued dedication to our Tiger community!
