Patriot leader files case against county

Jim Pruette, who leads the Calhoun-Liberty Patriots, filed a case in federal court Monday against the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners. At last Tuesday night’s board meeting, Pruette addressed the board, asking them to bring back at-large voting in Calhoun County. After discussion, Commissioner Danny Ray Wise (district 1) made a motion for both the County Commission and School Board to return to at-large voting. Attorney Matt Fuqua noted that the Commission could not tell the School Board what to do, but Wise stated he was following how the referendum read in 1996. The motion died for lack of a second. Pruette filed a motion for order to show cause and a petition for writ of mandamus in federal court Monday. For all the details, check out this week’s print edition.
