FREDDIE L. GLASS

Freddie L. Glass, 91 of Blountstown, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2022, in Blountstown. Freddie was born in Tallahassee, November 14, 1930, to the late Clarence and Idell Glass and had lived most of his life in Blountstown. Freddie was a veteran who served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War as a B-29 tail gunner. He worked as a master carpenter and cabinet maker and was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the Jackson County Masonic Lodge, Elks Lodge as well as the Shrine Club.

Other than his parents, Freddie was preceded in death by his wife June Glass in 2016; his brothers, Charles, Don, Wiley and Aubrey Glass; his sisters, Betty Wilson and Margaret Ann Glass and a grandchild Ren Glass. 

Survivors include his sons, Tony Glass and his wife Molly of Blountstown, Tim Glass and his wife Terri of Blountstown and Bobby Duvall and his wife Cheri of Tallahassee; his daughters, Debbie Sharpe and her husband Reggie of Blountstown and Jennifer Martin and her husband Randy of Tallahassee; his brothers, Walter Glass and his wife Liz of Tallahassee, Ted Glass and his wife Carol of Williston, Rick Glass and his wife Jeannie of Camilla, Georgia and Ben Glass and his wife Sherrie of Crestview; his sisters, Virginia Newman of Lake Charles, Louisiana and Mary Brown of Gastonia, North Carolina; thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

Services to honor Freddie’s life were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 13, 2022, at Adams Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend David Goodman officiating. Interment followed in Pine Memorial Cemetery near Blountstown.

DANNY RAY McCOURT

Danny Ray McCourt, age 75, of Altha, Florida, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Danny was born September 5, 1947, to Robert and Audrey McCourt. He was an Army veteran and a carpenter. Danny lived in Altha for over 30 years, was of the Baptist faith, a life member of the Amvets, but most of all loved spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert McCourt and Audrey McCourt; wife, Helen McCourt. 

Survivors include sons, Chuck McCrone of Altha, Bill McCrone of Altha, Larry McCourt and Linda of Altha, David McCourt and Michelle of Youngstown, Evan Sparks of Altha; daughter, Sissy Williams and Merchel of Altha; 17 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. 

A memorial service was held Tuesday November 15, 2022, from 2:00 PM (CST) until 4:00 PM (CST) at the Peavy Funeral Home Chapel in Blountstown, FL. Memorialization will be by cremation.

AVERY BROWARD (WOODY) WOOD

Avery Broward (Woody) Wood, 94, of Chipley. passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2022, in Panama City.  Broward was born June18, 1928, in Wausau, Florida, to the late Alex Broward Wood and Phelicia Amanda Wood.  Broward spent his career serving his country in the United States Air Force, 1948 to 1978, and retired a Chief Master Sergeant.  He served two tours of duty in Vietnam and was awarded two Bronze Stars with oak leaf cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal, and Air Medal, as well as many other awards.   

After retirement, he relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico, attended the University of New Mexico, and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree.  Broward was an active member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion in New Mexico and American Veterans Post 7 in Chipley. Broward and Bobbie came home to Chipley in 2015.

In addition to his parents, Broward was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years Bobbie (Grant) Wood, grandchildren Brian and Phillip Nugent and Stephanie Barnes, son-in-law, Kim Long, sisters Janice Wood and Patricia McEntire, and a brother and sister-in-law, C.J. McEntire and Margaret Wood. 

Survivors include his daughters, Gail Long and partner Dennis Nichols of Pensacola, and Yvonne Barnes and husband Tommy of Chipley, grandchildren Chris Barnes and wife Stefanie of Marianna and Eric Barnes and fiancée  Christine of Middletown, Rhode Island; great grandchildren Hannah Grace, Avery Leigh, and Coy Wallace Barnes; brothers Foley Wood and wife Mary Nell of Fort Walton Beach and Don Wood of Vero Beach; and sisters Geneva Greer of Panama City and Linda Adams of Blountstown. 

Services to honor Broward’s life were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 12, 2022, at Obert’s Funeral Home Chipley with a visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m.  Interment followed in Wausau Cemetery with military honors.

JAMES EARNEST “MO” PIERCE

James Earnest “Mo” Pierce, 65 of Blountstown passed away Monday, October 31, 2022, in Tallahassee. Mo was born in Newark, New Jersey to the late James and Marilyn Pierce and worked as an underground utility installer with Pickron Underground Utilities.

Other than his parents Mo is preceded in death by two brothers, Greg and Joey Pierce.

Mo is survived by his two stepchildren, Miranda Smith and her husband Casey of Altha and Brandon Ward of Blountstown; three grandchildren, Chason and Madison Smith and Cabral Ward; his siblings in New Jersey, Marie Ennis, Evelyn Graff Pierce and Eddie Pierce and a special person he counted as a brother Harold Pickron.

A memorial will be held 4:00 p.m. Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Adams Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Larry Rogers officiating.
