FAYE TUCKER SMITH

Faye Tucker Smith, age 82, of Blountstown, received her total and complete healing on March 14, 2023.  Faye was born on June 30, 1940, in Athens, Alabama to Edgar Marshall Tucker and Ruth Pope Tucker.  At the age of eight her family moved to Orlando, Florida and soon she was singing on local radio stations. By age 10 she was performing with a band and at age 12 she was a regular performer on an Orlando radio show. At the age of 14, she was featured three times a week on the television show, Art Davis and The Rhythm Riders. In 1963, at the age of 23, Faye made her way to Nashville and soon recorded her first album. In October of 1965, while living in Panama City, Faye met Wade Smith and they married in March of 1966, and that’s when Faye made Calhoun County her home. Faye received her teaching degree from Florida State University in 1993 and began working with the Calhoun County School System in 1994, retiring the first time in 2009. She went back to work with the Calhoun County School System and retired for the second time in July of 2022, at the age of 82. Faye loved children just as much, if not more, than she loved music. Faye was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Ruth Tucker, husband of 41 years, Wade M. Smith, sister-in-law, Hilma Smith Barbee, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Glenna Smith, nephews Salari Barbee and Ray Smith, and a special great nephew, Brandon Barbee.  

Survivors include her son, Gregory Wade Smith and wife, Cheryl of Keystone Heights, FL and her daughter, Traci Smith Hall and husband Jim of Blountstown; four grandchildren, Brody and Reagan Hall of Blountstown, Milo Smith of Keystone Heights, FL, Chris Hall and wife, Kaitlyn of Tallahassee, FL and two great-grandchildren; brothers, Wayne Tucker and wife, Jean of Sorrento, FL and Gene Tucker and wife, Robin of Tallahassee, Fl; a hosts of nieces and nephews and her special great-nephews – Matthew and Jim Barbee and all the children that she babysat before becoming a teacher that lovingly know her as “Aunt Faye”. She loved them all as her own. 

A visitation was held Sunday, March 19, 2023, from 5:00 PM (CT) until 7:00 PM (CT) at the Peavy Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services were held Monday March 20, 2023, at 11:00 AM (CT) at the Peavy Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Tim Faircloth and Reverend Tim Rhodes officiating. Interment followed at Nettle Ridge Cemetery in Blountstown, FL.

EVELYN SARAH SANDERS

Evelyn Sarah Sanders, 69 of Blountstown, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2023 in Blountstown. Evelyn was born in Jacksonville, Florida December 7, 1953, to the late Richard and Grace Leach. She worked as a certified nursing assistant for many years until her retirement. Evelyn a mother to all that came through her door and welcomed everyone. 

Other than her parents, Evelyn is preceded in death by her son, Arnold “Big Rob” Chasteen and a daughter Samantha McCalvin; her stepmother, Violet Leach and her stepfather, Jack Tanner.

Survivors include her son, Quentin Chasteen of Arizona; her daughter, Christina Flowers of Bristol; her brothers, Richard “Boatie” Tanner of Ocala, Jack Tanner, Jr. of Georgia and Donald Leach of California; her sister, Patricia Leach Brown of Ocala; fourteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren; her son-in-law, Robert Flowers; her lifelong friend Teri Reynolds of California and a host of stepbrothers, sisters, nieces nephews and other extended family. She will be missed by all that knew her.

GAIL NEWMAN WOOD

Gail Newman Wood, 83, of Clarksville, FL, passed away on March 14, 2023, at her home, surrounded by loved ones. Gail was born on December 3, 1939, in Baileyville, Maine and attended Morse High School in Bath, Maine. In October of 1957, she married Ronal Wood and they had two children together. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. Her grandchildren were always the highlight of her life.

Gail was a member of Blountstown First Pentecostal Holiness Church, the Women’s Club, as well as a Panhandle Pioneer Settlement volunteer for several years. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Irene Newman; her husband, Ronal Wood; her brothers, Gary Newman and Grady Newman, and a sister, Glenice Kelley.

She is survived by her son, Ronnie Wood and his wife Kim of Clarksville; a daughter, Patty; two granddaughters, Kelley Wood of Tallahassee and Kassie Wood of Clarksville; one grandson, Mathew Wood of Clarksville; one great-grandson, Jayden Jackson of Clarksville; one sister, Glenda Bickford of Troy, Maine; a brother, Robert Newman Jr. of Buxton, Maine and several nieces and nephews and other extended family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorialization will be by cremation.
