Obituaries – July 6th, 2022

WILL HOLMES, JR.

Mr. Will Holmes, Jr., of Blountstown, Florida transitioned from life temporal to life eternal on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 in Vitas, in Panama City, Florida. 

Homegoing Celebration of Life services were held on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at 12:00 Noon from the sanctuary of St. Rose AME Church located at 660 Holmes Court in Grand Ridge, Florida 32442 with Rev. Gary Reed, officiating. 

Interment followed in the Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Grand Ridge, Florida.

He leaves to cherish a lifetime of fond, yet precious memories, a loving and devoted family: one son, Michael (Denise) Holmes of Panama City, Florida,  a special friend, Alliene Davis of Blountstown, Florida and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many dear friends.

JOHN WOOD YON (J.W. YON II)

John Wood Yon (J.W. Yon II), 81 of Blountstown, Florida passed away on June 29, 2022. J.W. was born on February 4, 1941, to Mode and Emily Yon in Scotts Ferry, Florida. He grew up in Calhoun County and worked in the logging business most of his life. He enjoyed fishing, motorcycle riding, go-kart racing, and spending time with family.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Judy Yon of Blountstown, son, Keith Yon of Blountstown, daughter, Janet Yon Barton and husband Mike of Blountstown, brother, Jimmy Yon and wife Tootsie of Kinard, grandsons Joey Barton of Kinard, Kevin Barton and wife Lori of Clarksville, granddaughters, Julie Underwood of Altha, Kristin Yon of Compass Lake, Kaycee Yon of Marianna, great grandchildren, Hunter and Luke Barton of Clarksville, Jadelyn and Jorja Underwood of Altha, Easton Neel and Raelyn Waldron of Marianna. 

Funeral service were held July 1, 2022, at 11:00 AM (CT) at Peavy Funeral Home with Reverend Dwayne Tolbert officiating. Internment followed at the Yon Family Cemetery in Blountstown, FL. 

All arrangements were under the direction of Marlon Peavy at Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown, Florida, 850-674-2266.


JERRY MALCOM WALDRON

Jerry Malcom Waldron, 72 of Blountstown, passed away June 30, 2022, in Tallahassee. Jerry was born September 15, 1949, in Blountstown to the late Henry and Thelma Waldron and enjoyed collecting knives and guns. He split his residence between Blountstown and Fresno, California and was a Vietnam Veteran serving in the United States Navy from 1966-1970.

Jerry is preceded in death by his father, Henry Waldron; his mother, Thelma Waldron Kyle; his brothers, Clyde Waldron and James Clay Waldron; his sister, Melinda Waldron.

Survivors include his sons, James Waldron and his wife Courtnee from Fresno, CA; William Waldron and his wife Kimberly of Fresno, CA; his daughter, Rachel Waldron of Blountstown, FL; 5 grandchildren, Brianna Waldron of Fresno, CA, Alexander Waldron of Fresno, CA, Brooklyn Waldron of Fresno, CA, Rose and Tobias of Blountstown, FL; 3 sisters, Sue Bailey and her husband Clyde of Blountstown, FL; Janis Weiler and her husband Jack of Blountstown, FL; Deanna Waldron of Blountstown, FL; a host of nieces and nephews; and good friend Joe Ray Durham.

CINDY ANN GASKIN

Cindy Ann Gaskin, 62 of Wewahitchka, Florida passed away Friday, July 1, 2022, at her home. Cindy was born in Panama City to Charles Gaskin, Sr. and Etna Gaskin. She was a lifelong resident of Wewahitchka and graduated from Wewahitchka High School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and enjoyed doing crafts and spending time with animals and pets.

Cindy is survived by her mother, Etna Gaskin; a brother, Charles Gaskin, Jr.; her sister, Linda Kizziah and her husband Dennis of Panama City; her nieces and nephews, Brittany Smith and her husband Brian, Kimberly Wells and her husband J.T.; her great nieces and nephews, Jaxon and Teagon Wells and Chason and Lexi Smith.

Services to celebrate Cindy’s life will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at the First Baptist Church in Wewahitchka with Reverend Mike Stroud officiating. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation at the church one hour prior to the services on Wednesday.
