PHARIS JOE “SONNY” BROWN

Pharis Joe “Sonny” Brown, 97, of Hosford passed away Thursday, July 13, 2023 at his home.  Sonny was born February 2, 1926, the oldest son of Allison Monroe “Bud” and R.M. Chason Brown.

Sonny was a hard-working man who loved his family profoundly. At age 15, he left school during the Great Depression to saw logs full-time in order to help provide for his family. He later began working for the Florida State Road Department as a laborer until he was drafted in the United States Marine Corps from 1950-1952.  His time in the service allowed him to finish his schooling under the GI Bill. He retired from the Florida Department of Transportation as a Road Superintendent after 38 years of dedicated service.

Sonny was a devout Christian who loved the Lord and had read the New Testament 92 times and the Old Testament 16 times. He served as a Deacon at Corinth Baptist Church for over 40 years.

Sonny, best known as Daddy, Grandaddy, or Uncle Sonny to those dearest to him, was devoted to his family and always made time for them.  Any time spent with his family was precious to him, but he especially enjoyed the time shared outdoors, particularly running fox, deer hunting, fishing, gardening, and making cane syrup.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Black Brown, to whom he was married for 56 years; his parents, Bud and R.M. Chason Brown; an infant son and twin daughters, Susan and Sharon; a sister, Geraldine Sykes (Shiny); brothers, Sedrick Brown, Gardner Brown (Claire), Pete Brown (Opal), and Abner Brown.

Sonny is survived by his two brothers, Shelfer Brown and Lum Brown (Jannis); a sister-in-law, Edna Brown; four children, Jane Faurot (Alan), Harold Brown (Pam), Joy Griffith (Jerry), and Doyle Brown (Beth); thirteen grandchildren, Alana Faurot, Leah Hounshell (Ryan), Kristin Tadlock (John), Bobby Lee Bulzer (Victoria), Kevin Brown (Becky), Jerrod Griffith, Kara Chilcutt (Ryan), Sarah Faurot, Jimmy Brown (Shelbi), Ann Marie Brown, Malcolm Griffith, Mary Beth Brown, and Sara Catherine Brown; eight great-grandchildren, Caroline, Connor, Nathan, and Grant Hounshell, Grayson Bulzer, Caleb Tadlock, Ryan Brown, and Gracie Tadlock; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Services were held at Telogia Baptist Church on Saturday, July 15, 2023, with visitation at 10:00 a.m. and funeral at 11:00 a.m. EST. Burial followed at the Brown Family Cemetery.

ANNA PATRICIA FREEMAN

Anna Patricia Freeman, 68 of Havana, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2023, in Tallahassee. Ann was born September 20, 1954, in Port Arthur, Texas, to the late Bascom and Martha Pippin. Ann just retired from FCOR where she had worked since 2007 in the office of Clemency Investigations where she contributed invaluably to the success of her team through the years. She enjoyed helping others.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband David Stephen Freeman, a brother Dennis Pippin and a sister Brenda Bruner.

She is survived by two sisters, Elaine Tolbert of Woodville, TX and Carol Huffman of Chipley, FL; her brother and sister in law, Stan and Vicky Freeman of Crawfordville, FL along with many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

Services to honor Ann’s life were held 2:00 PM CST, Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Pine Memorial Cemetery near Blountstown with Reverend Mike Stroud officiating.

SHEILA RAMONA HATCHER

Sheila Ramona Hatcher, age 63, of Bristol, FL, passed away July 15, 2023. Shelia was born July 4, 1960, to Albert and Ramona Duggar in Okinawa Japan. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Shelia enjoyed fishing and hunting with her husband, as well as staying at their camp and going to football games. She genuinely loved her family and loved being with her family. 

Sheila was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Ramona Duggar. She is survived by her husband, James E (Jimmy) Hatcher of Bristol, FL; son, Phillip and Sara Hatcher of Blountstown, FL; daughters, Melonie and Dan Bontrager of Melbourne Beach, FL, and Jennifer; Brother, Chris Lister of Dellwood, FL; sisters, Sherry and Ricky Bozeman of Bristol, FL, Cynthia and Ken Summer of Bristol, FL, Melody and Mark of Dellwood, FL; 12 grandchildren and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, Heather Bozeman, Kayla Phillips, Austin Green, John Perkins, Matt Perkins, and Chad Perkins, Brooklyn Perkins. 

Funeral services will be held Wednesday July 19,2023 at 1:00 pm (CT) at the Church of Jesus of Latter-Day Saints in Bristol, FL. The family will receive friends Tuesday July 18, 2023, from 5:00 pm (CT) to 7:00 PM (CT) at Peavy Funeral Home Chapel.

LLOYD CORNELIUS WOLFE

Lloyd Cornelius Wolfe, 73 of Clarksville, passed away Friday, July 14, 2023, in Marianna. Lloyd was born November 19, 1949, in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, to the late Frances and Mary Wolfe and was retired from the United States Army where he served for twenty-one years. He was a Patriot Systems Technician earning several commendations including the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Commendation Medal as well as the Bronze Star.

Other than his parents, Lloyd was preceded in death by his sister Donna Wolfe. Survivors include his wife Doris G. McCrone-Wolfe; his children, Daniel Wolfe, Diana Wolfe, Robert Green and Alan Green; his sisters, Marty McNabb and her husband Donnie of West Virginia and Mary Davenport and her husband Coy of Virginia.

Private services to honor Lloyd’s life will be held at a later date with full military honors.
