Obituaries – August 18th 2022


Louie Deese, age 85, of Altha, FL passed away on Monday, August 8, 2022. Louie was born September 5, 1936, to Wiley and Millie Deese in Fayette, AL. He had lived in Altha most of his life, was of the protestant faith, and enjoyed mowing grass, tinkering in his shop, mechanicing, and gardening. Most of all Louie truly loved his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Wiley and Millie Deese; wife, Betty Deese; daughter, Charlene Wright, granddaughter, Aaleigha Register; grandson, William Gay; brothers and sisters, Frances, Jeanetta, Opal, Bama. He is survived by his son, Rev. Henry Timothy Gay and Linda of Franklinton, LA; daughters, Gail Deese of Altha, FL, Tammy Keller of Grand Ridge, FL; brothers, Houston Deese and Gwen of Altha, FL, Huey Deese and Joyce of Marianna, FL, Dewey Deese and Jerry of Cottondale, FL; sisters, Victoria Watson of Dellwood, FL, Sarah Breedlove and JR of Hazelhurst, GA, Betty Joyce Corbin of Cottondale, FL; 8 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; numerous great-great grandchildren. 

The family received friends Thursday August 11, 2022, at 11:00 AM (CT) at the Peavy Funeral Home Chapel in Blountstown, FL. Funeral services began at 12:00 PM (CT) with Rev Tim Gay officiating. Interment followed at Sunny Hill Cemetery in Altha, FL. 

All arrangements were under the direction of Marlon Peavy at Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown, FL. 850-674-2266.  


Mrs. Donna Jean Green, age 83, of Grand Ridge, FL passed away at her home on Sunday, August 7, 2022. Donna was born on December 15, 1938, in Calhoun County to Thomas Edward (Bear) Hansford and Eva Davis Hansfordand had lived in Calhoun and Jackson Counties for most of her life. Donna devoted and gave her life to the care and wellbeing of her husband and 6 children, raising them off the land was endless work; growing, picking, canning, and cooking, was nonstop. But she loved flowers of all varieties and made time to grew and care for them, plus some of the most beautiful Roses around. She was preceded in death by her parents Bear and Eva Hansford; loving husband of 59 years, Herman Green; three sisters; Anna Margaret Hansford, Dorothy Weeks, Carolyn Sexton and three brothers; William Edward Hansford, Richard Harold Hansford, Charlie Max Hansford. She was a member of the Shady Grove United Methodist Church. 

Survivors include two sons, Gary L. Green of Wewahitchka, FL, Jim Green of Ellijay, GA; five daughters, Gail Rosenberger and husband, John of Grand Ridge, FL, Sandra Davis of Grand Ridge, FL, Beverly Etheredge and husband, Tim of Mexico Beach, FL, Brenda Green of Grand Ridge, FL. and Sylvia Green of Ball Ground, GA; one brother, Thomas Earl (Tommy) Hansford; five sisters, Deborah Starks, Wanda Mills, Ada Dean Hagler, Teresa Mayo, L V Hansford; 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held Friday, August 12, 2022, at 11:00 AM (CT) at Shady Grove United Methodist Church Reverend Terry Tatum officiating. Family received friends from 10:00 AM (CT) until service time. Interment  followed in Shady Grove Cemetery.

Gus Tiff McClellan, age 63, of Clarksville, FL passed away Sunday, July 31, 2022. Tiff was born on October 17, 1958, in Marianna, FL to Gus and Syble McClellan and had lived in Calhoun County his whole life. Tiff was of the Baptist faith, enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening, loved FSU football, but most of all, truly loved his family.  Tiff was preceded in death by his father, Gus McClellan; mother, Syble Bridges McClellan; brother-in-law, Andy Nichols. 

Survivors include wife, Sharon McClellan of Clarksville, FL; sons, Chase McClellan and Mary Sue of Clarksville, FL, Sam Clay of Grand Ridge, FL; daughters, Tiffany Roddenberry and Bryan of Tallahassee, FL, Jennifer Benton and Billy of Sneads, FL; sisters, Chris Nichols of Blountstown, FL, Tanya Smith and Sammy of Blountstown, FL; grandchildren, Kyle, Haley, Alex, Ava, and Drew. 

Family received friends Friday August 5, 2022, at 1:00 PM (CT) at Peavy Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service began at 2:00 PM (CT). Interment followed at the McClellan Family Cemetery in Frink, FL.

Hazel Douberley Eddleman, of Telogia, Florida, passed away on August 9, 2022, at the age 96. Hazel was born in Quincy, Florida to Frances Mary Brown Douberley and Richard Bartow Douberley. She attended Liberty County High School and graduated in 1944. Hazel worked for the State of Florida, retiring from the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles after 35 years of service.  After retirement she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church including volunteering at the Thrift Store, and spending quality time with her friends.

Hazel is survived by her children, James Gary Eddleman and wife Barbara of Longmont, Colorado, Richard “Bud” Eddleman and wife Debbie of Telogia, Florida, Deborah “Debbie” Brown and husband, Larry of Hosford, Florida and Kathleen “Kathy” Brown and husband Ricky of Bristol, Florida.  She leaves eight grandchildren, Jason Eddleman, Justin Eddleman, Tammy Russell and husband Brett, Michael Richter and wife, Heather, Monica Guy, Richard Garett Eddleman, Ryan Eddleman, and Nikki Kathleen Johnson and husband Luke. Her legacy also includes fourteen great grandchildren, Chayes Eddleman, Noah, Carson, and Lacey Russell, Makayla Geiger, Kassidi and Korie Eddleman, Brayden and Maddie Grace Richter, Sophie and Hudson Guy, and Ellie, Logan, and Landry Johnson.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Walter Milton “Buck” Douberley and three sisters, Ellen Scarabin, Lorene Duncan and Yvonne Atchison.

Hazel’s mark on those who loved her cannot be overstated.  She was steadfast in her love of her family and each one knew in their hearts that she loved without condition.  She was unyielding to disappointment and adversity, which she experienced from time to time during her 96 years of life.  She was an example to her children and grandchildren of a person who was content in life, enjoyed work but was not ruled by it and held strong in her faith and church life.  Her values of hard work, perseverance, and frugality shaped those that she raised, and they are all better for it.  Those tenants of life remain with the twenty-two loved ones that survive her as they hold close the memory of those piercing blue eyes and quick wit.

Services to honor Hazel were held at 9:30 EST Friday, August 12, 2022, at Good Hope Cemetery with Reverend David Kassi and Kyle Peddie officiating.

Daisy Louise Herring passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2022, in Tallahassee at the age of 83. Daisy was born in Sneads, April 22, 1939, to the late John and Fannie Colvin and worked as a UTR Specialist for the Florida State Hospital until her retirement. She was a member of the Sneads Assembly of God Church in Sneads and very active in fundraising for the church. Daisy also filled in as a substitute teacher for several years and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Herring in 2020 and leaves behind her children, Christopher Herring of Michigan and Kimberly Herring Mahmood of Blountstown; her sisters Gracie Harrison of Sneads and Mary Harrison of Cypress; her grandchildren, Caleb Mills, Hammadah Walquist, Maryam Mahmood, Aisha Mahmood and Ryder Herring and one great grandchild, Jasey Mills.

Services to honor Daisy’s life were held  at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at Sneads Assembly of God Church in Sneads with Reverend Juno Douglas officiating. A time of visitation was held from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, August 15, 2022, at Adams Funeral Home in Blountstown.
