NEWS ALERT – Altha Man Arrested for Meth

An Altha man wanted on outstanding warrants in three counties has been apprehended and is now facing meth charges. Tracy Jack Smith, 42, was arrested Thursday and charged with attempt to manufacture meth and possession of listed chemicals. According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, Smith has been wanted on warrants in Calhoun, Liberty and Gadsden counties and has eluded authorities on several occasions. Sgt. Jared Nichols received a tip Thursday that Smith was at a McClendon Road residence. Dep. Jody Hoagland and Sgt. Nichols went to the home and spotted Smith on a back porch. Smith reportedly ran through the yard and hid behind a shed, but was quickly taken into custody without incident. As Smith was led to the patrol vehicle, a duffel bag was retrieved from where he had been standing on the porch. The bag was found to contain pseudoephedrine, lithium batteries and other ingredients used to make meth. A package of batteries was also located in Smith’s pocket.
