Liberty County’s new jail and Sheriff’s Office complex is expected to be completed by September 17th with an open house for the public scheduled for October 23rd, according to Liberty County Sheriff Dusty Arnold.
Construction on the up to 154 inmate facility has been by Culpepper Construction and has gone as scheduled on the building designed by the architecture company CRA. The cost of the facility is $26 million, all made available by a state appropriation.
“This new jail and Sheriff’s Office complex is truly a gift to Liberty County. It was completely funded by the State of Florida, meaning our taxpayers didn’t have to shoulder the financial burden. That’s nearly $26 million invested into our local infrastructure without a single dollar coming out of the pockets of our citizens.
This facility isn’t just about housing inmates, it’s about improving safety, efficiency, and regional cooperation. It gives us the ability to properly manage our inmate population, provide better working conditions for our deputies, and meet modern legal and safety standards. But beyond that, it also gives surrounding counties a much-needed resource for housing inmates during emergencies or when their own facilities are full or under renovation.
This jail represents progress for our county and the entire region. It’s an investment in public safety, in our future, and in the well-being of every citizen who calls Liberty County home,” Sheriff Dusty Arnold noted proudly.
