Mrs. Merle Joyce (Hanna) Pippen, 76, of Altha, FL, passed away Saturday night, October 17, 2009, in Blountstown. Joyce was born on September 24, 1933, in Jackson County and had lived in Calhoun County for most of her life. She was a retired school teacher, teaching in Calhoun County Schools for 34 years. Mrs. Pippen was a 1951 graduate of Altha High School and a 1955 graduate of Florida State University with a bachelors degree in education. She was a member of the CCREA and a member of the Altha First Baptist Church in Altha. Joyce was preceded in death by a sister, Alda Mae Hansford, and a brother, Ira Burrel Hanna. Survivors include one son, Jon Howard Pippen, of Wewahitchka; three brothers, Enoch Hanna of Altha, Carroll Hanna of Altha, Terrell Hanna of Tallahassee; two sisters, Floester H. Halada of Altha, Myrtle Elizabeth Howell of Americus, GA; grandson, Jon Charles Pippen, of Blountstown; and a granddaughter, Savannah Pippen, of Wewahitchka. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 20, at 11:00 a.m. (CT) at the Altha First Baptist Church with Rev. Jim McIntosh officiating. Interment followed in the Mt. Olive Cemetery in Altha. All arrangements were under the direction of Marlon Peavy at Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown (ph. 850-674-2266).
