Memorial marker placed at school

Back before desegregation, Blountstown Middle School was known as Mayhaw School in Calhoun County.For years, many in the Mayhaw community have sought a way to remember the old school. Saturday that opportunity came when a memorial marker was placed on the grounds of the campus. Pictured at the dedication are (from left) Charles Buggs, Ken Speights, and Corey Hatchett of the Mayhaw Community Association. Speights, who serves as a School Board member, says the marker stems from a presentation made two years ago by Eddie Smith.
