Local Team Takes First Place In National Manhunt Competition

The team of (from left) CaCI Ofc. Kevin Barton, BPD Maj. Rodney Smith, BPD Sgt. Fred Tanner, and CaCI Sgt. Andy Millard, along with K-9 Bud, returned from the National Manhunt Competition in Little Rock, Arkansas, last week with the first place championship title. All the men were off-duty and went on their own vehicles to the event, even selling ribs at a cookout to raise money for the trip. Following mile and a half long paths through mountain terrain and trailing two hour old tracks, the team beat their closest competition by four minutes. During the trip, they joined a real search when a juvenile prisoner on an Army base escaped. They also had quite an experience one night when a storm broke out and they spotted two tornadoes!
