Local man busted while cooking meth

Wyatt James Newton, 30, has been charged with manufacture of meth, possession of meth and possession of listed chemicals. According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, Inv. Timothy Partridge and Sgt. Jared Nichols responded to a tip that Newton had just purchased some lithium batteries from a local store. The batteries are a common ingredient in the manufacture of meth. Newton was already on the radar of law enforcement after several tips that he was making the drug on a weekly basis. Cpl. Eddie Dalton and Sgt. Nichols went to Newton’s home on Marcus B. Lane and spotted Newton coming from a camper on the property. They confronted Newton who admitted he had a problem for a long time and needed help. Newton had allegedly just begun the cooking process when authorities arrived.
