The fact that a three-year-old Blountstown girl is alive today is nothing short of miraculous.Little Jada Owens was swimming at Camel Lake in Liberty County Saturday afternoon when she nearly drowned. Just moments before, Calhoun County EMS Director Phillip Hill, along with Paramedic Keith Daniels, had come to a single vehicle crash a half mile from Camel Lake to backup Liberty EMS as they assisted a carload of victims. With those involved in the crash stabilized, Hill and Daniels listened on the scanner as a call came out about a possible drowning at Camel Lake. The men rushed to the scene where a crowd was gathered around Jada. According to the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, bystander Miley Williams was rubbing Jada’s back and stomach to get her to cough up water. Hill and Daniels rushed her into the ambulance and began assisting her – and praying over her. The child was airlifted to TMH. Because she had been under water 12 minutes, brain damage was feared. As of Monday, she was sitting up eating a popsicle. Her mom, Ericka Bess, who is extremely grateful to rescue workers, was set to bring her home Tuesday.
