Liberty County Sheriff Dusty Arnold joined other sheriff’s from our area in Tallahassee Monday. Governor DeSantis was there along with Madison Sheahan, Deputy Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The occasion was to announce a donation to the rural sheriff’s offices their share of $10,005,665, part of President Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill. “We are receiving $130,000 total. $100,000 has to be used for purchasing a vehicle or vehicle repairs. The other $30,000 can go towards equipment for the four Deputies that we have who are 287g. A 287g officer is a local or state law enforcement officer who has been trained and authorized by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to help enforce federal immigration laws. Basically, a 287g officer is still a loal cop or deputy, but with added powers from ICE to help identify and process undocumented immigrants in the jail or communi- ty,” Sheriff Arnold stated.
