The Bulldogs are on FIRE!
This 8 man team has sent word out that they are not the same team in years past. The Bulldogs were 10-1, including the 82-34 victory over the Vernon Jackets. Key players against the Jackets included Matthew Lollie with 21 points, Kashon Chambers with 20 points, and Carson Haupt with 12 points. This set the tone for upcoming rivalry game against the Blountstown Tigers.
In front of a packed out house and roaring home crowd last Friday, the Bulldogs dominated, showing that they are here to play no games, beating their rival, the Tigers, 57-45. This victory not only marked the Bulldogs 11th win, but also sent a clear message to the league: this team is a powerhouse.
The bulldogs started out a little slow the first quarter, falling behind, but this was nothing that stopped the heat they had in store. Star point guard Michael Glisson set the tempo, getting on the board first with free throws then dishing out eight assists, draining four three’s out of six, and having a total of 22 points. Two more statement players were Kashon Chambers with an aggressive 17 points despite being covered by men on defense, and Matthew Lollie with 6 key rebounds and 2 steals. The bulldogs went on to have a total of 57 points, 22 rebounds, 18 assists, and 11 steals.
These 3 players are only parts of this 8 man team though. Every player on the team has a job and gets it done. For example, Jason Walker being the man to make a shot when needed, having a 52% field goal percentage. And Carson Haupt, stopping the ball on defense with an average of 1.2 blocks per game and a total of 16 for the season.
All would not be possible without head coach Kent Rogers. Coach Rogers gave encouragement and praise to his players along with discipline to make them better. The Tigers have been a difficult team to handle for the past 4 years for the Bulldogs, but Coach Rogers helped his team achieve the goal to take them down.
Knowing how big this game was and what it meant to their fans and community, the Bulldogs came out aggressive in order to make a statement. The Bulldog community left Friday night with no disappointment. The Blountstown Tigers was no easy team to handle but the Liberty County Bulldogs showed that when they are in the zone, they’re a hard team to beat. Liberty County fans are still saying that this was the best $7 they spent.
