(L-R: Scout Harr, Jay Brown and Coach Jason Brown)
What a great season for LCHS wrestling. The Bulldogs qualified 2 wrestlers for the state tournament in Kissimmee, sophomore Jay Brown, 120lbs, 2x state qualifier, and Junior Scout Harr, 285lbs, and just a 2nd year wrestler. Wrestling in the state tournament consisted of 3 days of competition and runs Thursday through Saturday. Jay Brown started the day off with a 1st round win over a tough Somerset opponent. Scout Harr lost his first round to the eventual state champion. Next he lost his afternoon match to a very tough opponent knocking him out of the tournament but he learned alot and will be back better next year.
Day 2 for Jay Brown started off with a win sending him to the semi finals where he lost to the eventual state champion. In the consolation round Jay suffered another very close loss then moved to compete for 5th place where he secured the win and his spot on the podium and made history as Liberty County High school’s first ever State Placer in wrestling.
This has been a great season with many lessons learned on and off the mat. We have watched all 7 kids grow this season physically and mentally and we have matured as a team and will continue to work towards our goals. If your child would like to participate in a sport that will improve their mental and physical well being wrestling is it. The benefits for other sports are tremendous. Many great football players will tell you wrestling helped their game.
Big thanks to our wrestling parents and grandparents, and coaching families (Kalynn Richardson) and all that donated to our fundraisers this season. We couldn’t do it without you!
Call or text coach Jason Brown at 850-545-2098 if you would like to give it a try.
All ages are welcome in our summer program.
