Drug Task Force  continues with warrants round up

On July 11, 2023, Calhoun County Criminal Investigation Division Narcotic’s Unit and Deputies along with The North Star Multijurisdictional Drug Task Force continued with the warrants round up operation.  While doing so, a red in color pickup traveling northbound along CR 69S, in the Hugh Creek Community.  The driver was observed not wearing a safety belt and observed was a small child not in a child seat.  The child was observed learning over the seat dividing the front and rear of the cab.

A Traffic stop was then conducted.  Once the vehicle came to a complete stop, Deputy Baker approached the driver’s side and made contact with the driver, Alexis Shaw.  Investigator Norris made a passenger side approach and observed Anthony Ernest Sansom chewing on a plastic baggie.  Investigator Norris asked Sansom what was in his mouth, and he reached inside this mouth and pulled out a clear plastic baggie containing a small amount of crystal-like substance, consistent with being Methamphetamine.  Sansom was then removed from the vehicle and then restrained in handcuffs.

The suspected crystal Methamphetamine was later field tested in a NIK narcotics identification kit, which yielded a presumptive positive result for the presence of Methamphetamine.  The evidence was later packaged and placed into the Calhoun County evidence intake room in a secure manner.

The driver was released with a verbal warning for Child Restraint and Seat Belt violations.

Based on the above information and facts, Investigator Norris and the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, find probable cause to charge Anthony Ernest Sansom, in violation of the following Florida State Statute.

•F.S.S. 918.13 – Tampering with Evidence

•F.S.S. 893.13 – Possession of Control Substance (Methamphetamine)
