Common Sense Can Protect You From Swine Flu

Predictions and worst case scenarios are running rampant about the deadly H1N1 Swine Flu. It’s definitely a threat, but protecting yourself from this epidemic can be a matter of following basic health practices. According to Dr. Eugene Charbonneau, Calhoun and Liberty County Health Department Administrator, “Use common sense – that’s the main thing.” He explains, “The flu has a numerical rating to it and it’s from 1 to 5 with 5 the absolute worst. We’re at about a 2 – that’s the best estimate of where we’re going to go. You’re going to have a lot of people maybe absent from school, not enough to close them, and a lot of people may be out of work.” His best advice? “Wash your hands, cover your coughs, and if you’re sick, please stay home.” Regular flu shots will be available in September and H1N1 shots in October.
