Last Thursday was one of those days for the Tigers. We have the field painted ready to go but mother nature had other plans. After a couple pretty days to start the week Thursday it poured to the point that our field was really unsafe to play on. With all the rain we had over the last month or so the water table is bubbling to the surface around this place. So Thursday about lunch we decided it was in everyone’s best interest to move the game. I hated to do that but because it was the kick off classic and not a regular season game we decided to move it to Tallahassee. Those of you that follow high school football knows the talent Florida High has year in and year out. They played a very clean game with penalties and turnovers give them credit. We on the other hand did not. We had 3 turnovers and a blocked punt that all lead to points against us. We talk about teams maybe not so much winning games as not losing them…..we lost this one ourselves!

Hopefully lessons will be learned as we move forward to start the regular season. The JV Tigers played a pretty good second half falling 6-0 and we fumbled on the 3 going in to score in that half. Speaking of the JV, they defeated Sneads at Bowles Field Monday night, 14-0 . The 3 home JV games this year will all be on Mondays to help with a shortage of officials.
This is a new week and we start the regular season off at home against a talented Freeport team. They won their 2 half scrimmages by a 56-6 margin against Vernon and Destin. They spread the field and throw it all over the place. We must control the ball, limit their possessions and not turn the ball over. I think you will see a much better showing for the Tigers this week. The regular season starts and everyone is 0-0 this week. One week at a time for these Tigers as new players settle into new roles and the older players get more comfortable. This team has a lot of new faces, it will take a little time for things to gel! Let’s pack it out this week as the Bulldogs come to town week 1!! As always!! GO TIGERS!!!
