On February 5, 2023 at approximately 10:38 am, deputies of the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in reference to a domestic disturbance.  Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the complainant who was later identified as the victim. The victim stated to deputies that a physical altercation had occurred between her and Benjamin Willis, who is an officer with the Blountstown Police Department. According to the victim, on the night of February 4, 2023 she and Willis were at the Blountstown Brewery with a few friends. The victim stated that after returning home, a verbal argument occurred which ultimately led to Willis striking her in the face with a closed fist. Deputies did observe injuries to the victim’s left eye and cheek. The deputies also observed a cut on the victim’s lips and dried blood in her nostrils.

Deputies then made contact with Willis. Willis stated that they were both drinking the night of the incident. Willis stated that once home, the victim was laying on the floor. Willis stated that he then touched her arm in an attempt to help her off of the floor. Willis stated this is when the victim kicked him twice in the chest. Willis stated this caused him to strike the victim. Deputies asked Willis if he had any marks from where he had been kicked, to which he replied no. Deputies did request to see Willis’ chest. Willis consented, however deputies observed no marks on Willis’ chest. Willis refused to allow deputies to take photos of his chest.

Benjamin Willis was subsequently placed under arrest for the violation of the following Florida Statute:
