Are you ready for some football? The 2022 version of Blountstown Tiger football will host the Florida High Seminoles this Thursday night in a preseason contest. Florida High comes into the game as the defending Class 3A Region 1 Champion, reaching the Final Four in the state playoffs last year finishing the season with an 11-2 record. Blountstown’s season came to an end last year in the Class 1A Region 2 Finals to the eventual Class 1A Champions Madison County. Blountstown finished the season last year with a 9-2 record.
The Tigers have a new head coach this year in Greg Jordan. Coach Jordan is no stranger to Blountstown. Coach Jordan is a 1987 graduate of Blountstown High School and was employed with the Calhoun County School District for 21 years and 12 years as the Blountstown High football head coach. Under Jordan’s 12 years at the helm in Blountstown he became the winningest coach in school history amassing a record of 105 wins with 39 loses winning an amazing 73% of his games averaging slightly over 8 wins per year. Jordan’s Tigers made the postseason 11 of 12 seasons including 9 consecutive appearances from 2009-2017 with two State Runner-up finishes in 2013 and 2017.
Coach Jordan has been absent from Blountstown for the past 4 years spending 2 years in Port St. Joe and 2 years at Liberty County as their head football coach.
The Tigers return a dozen players with significant experience including on offense starting QB Josh Pope with running backs Amarion Hover, Tristan Jones and Elam Johnson. The offensive and defensive line will be anchored with David Jemison, Yanti Miller, Jaelon Porter, Jackson Shuler, Artavius Jones, D’Ante Reed and Jimmy Shuler. Skilled personnel include Ashton Mosely, Aidan Richards, Taiveon Crumitie, Bryant Washington, Cam Jones, Jayce Copeland, Kelvin Anderson.
The varsity team will play the first half with the JV and subs finishing the game in the second half. Game time this THURSDAY night in Blountstown will be at 7:00.
