Blountstown Elementary School students, faculty, staff, administrators, family, and friends were all smiles Thursday morning as the new facility was opened for all to see. BES Principal Jonetta Dawson welcomed everyone and echoed the school’s theme this year, “Back Together Again”. Faculty members wore shirts with the theme boldly imprinted.
Superintendent Darryl Taylor noted it had been nearly six years since Hurricane Michael had ripped through our area forcing Blountstown Elementary School students to be moved to the Middle School and Middle School to the High School. “This day marks the final piece of the recovery from Hurricane Michael”.
ThIrd grade student Landon Gibbs led the Pledge of Allegiance. Guest speakers were former principal Vicki Davis and former teacher Glen McClellan. Both shared memories of what the old facility meant to them and what the new facility offers for future generations of BES students.
Paris Southerland did a beautiful job performing the National Anthem.
Pastor Delano Reed gave an inspirational benediction before the crowd moved outside for the ribbon cutting ceremony.
Representatives Shane Abbott and Jason Shoaf, Senators Jay Trumbull and Bill Montford and Facilities Director Willie Pitts were recognized. FLDOE Program Director Violet Brown and Lobbyist Patrick Bell were thanked for their tireless efforts seeing the project through.
Special thanks and recognition went to CRA Architects, Allstate Construction and BNL Construction Services for the design and construction of the magnificent facility.
