Blountstown Designated A Gate Community For Florida Trail

A representative from the Florida Trail Association (FTA) was on hand at last Tuesday night’s Blountstown City Council meeting where Mayor Winston Deason signed a proclamation to designate Blountstown as a Gateway Community on the Florida Trail. Pictured at the signing are (seated, from left) City Manager James Woods, Mayor Deason, City Attorney David House, (standing) Councilman Phillip Hill, Councilman Tony Shoemake, Howard Pardue of the Florida Trail Association, Patrick Brown, the local section leader for the Blountstown Greenway, Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce Director Kristy Halley Speers, Councilman David Blair, Harry Hagan who led the effort to create the Blountstown Greenway and Councilwoman Janie Boyd. According to the FTA, “Florida Trail Gateway Communities provide destinations around which you can plan your outdoor recreation. Head here for a weekend or more and set up your base camp at a local campground, or enjoy creature comforts at one of the local motels or bed and breakfasts. There are hometown restaurants, shops, and other in-town amenities to complement your outdoor forays on the Florida Trail and other hiking trails, along creeks and rivers in your kayak, or out on mountain bike trails on your bike.”
