BHS to host St. Joe for Senior Night Thursday

It was two out of three for the Blountstown Tigers last week as they defeated Bonifay and Wewa, then got edged by Liberty County. The Tigers hosted Bonifay last Tuesday night and won, 52-33. “Our star forward Leon Broxton twisted his ankle in the first quarter,” says Coach Tony Davis. “We played basically the whole game without him. Bonifay beat us by 25 points at the beginning of the season so it just shows we made tremendous improvement to beat them without Leon and so impressively.” P.J. Buggs was the top scorer with 19 points, followed by Cavon Cox with nine. “Paul Mosley had only two points, but he finished up with nine assists and really just controlled the tempo of the game,” Coach Davis remarks. The Tigers traveled to Wewa Thursday and brought back a 60-46 win. Cox led BHS with 14 points, followed by Jawon Mosley with 12, Buggs with 11, Brion Simmons with six, and Ryan McIntyre with four. The Tigers were in Bulldog country Friday night to take on Liberty County in one of the most exciting games of the season. The Tigers led at halftime, 28-22, but the Bulldogs came out biting in the third quarter and outscored BHS, 14-7. The game was tied 47-47 at the end of four quarters and went into overtime. The Bulldogs outscored the Tigers, 3-2, and edged BHS, 50-49. After defeating LCHS by 29 points earlier in the season, it was definitely a disappointing loss for the Tigers. Buggs was the top scorer for BHS with 19 points including three 3-pointers. Simmons followed with 14 points and Cox with nine. The Tigers traveled to Franklin County Tuesday night (details unavailable at press time). Senior night is Thursday when Port St. Joe comes to town. Game time is 6 p.m. for J.V., followed by varsity at 7:30 p.m. The district tournament gets underway Monday at Blountstown. The Tigers will take to the court on Tuesday to face Bonifay in the first round. Game time is set for 6 p.m. Coach Davis says fan support has been great and he urges everyone to come cheer on the Tigers!
