BHS Lady Tigers Split Two Matches

The Blountstown Lady Tigers split two matches last week, falling to Sneads on a road trip Tuesday, then defeating Holmes County at home on Thursday. The Tigers came out fighting against the Lady Pirates, but fell short in the end. Scores were 27-25, 18-25, 25-23, 18-25, 9-15. “It was a hard fought battle – this is a district rival,” says Coach Tanya Durham. “The girls played hard. We had good setting for Selena Williams and Brittany Griffin with 11 kills. Sierra Chason had an outstanding defensive night with 20 digs. It was a pretty even serving game for most of the girls.” In addition to 11 kills, Griffin had one block, three assists, and a dig. Williams had three kills, two blocks, 15 assists, and four digs. Chelsea Baker had one kill and two blocks. Audrey Eubanks had three kills, one block, and one assist. Lindsey Doyal had two blocks. Shaterial Davis had two kills and 10 digs. Sasha Simmons pulled down four kills, while Erin Fowler chalked up nine digs. Holmes County came calling Thursday and the Lady Tigers sent them packing, 25-19, 25-7, 25-19. “We had outstanding serving performance by Shaterial Davis,” says Coach Durham. “She had 25 points off her serves and 10 aces.” Williams contributed three aces, four kills, two blocks, and eight assists. Griffin offered two aces, four kills, one block, and one dig. Chason added an ace and four digs. Eubanks had two aces, one kill, and two digs. Junicia Baker had three aces and one kill. In addition to her service points, Davis had a kill and a dig. Fowler pulled down two kills and had a dig. Sasha Simmons had five kills and four blocks. Doyal added a dig. The J.V. Lady Tigers won both of their matches last week. The Lady Tigers were set to travel to Marianna Monday and host Graceville in a district match Tuesday (details unavailable at press time). The girls will be in Cottondale Thursday for another district match, then back at home Monday to kick off homecoming week with a match against Liberty County. Game time is 5 p.m. for J.V. and 6 p.m. for varsity.
