Blountstown Girls Basketball Playoff Recap
On February 8th the Blountstown Lady Tigers basketball team hosted the Malone Lady Tigers for the Region 3 district Championship. The Blountstown Lady Tigers had beaten the Malone twice during the regular season by a combined score of 127-51. The Blountstown Lady Tigers were up to the task by defeating Malone for the third time 60-23. Pressure defense and offensive execution lead to the win. Leading scores for Blountstown were Cy Smith 28 points, Jaylynn Copeland 15 points and Jaharra Pennywell 7 points. The win advanced the Blountstown Lady Tigers to the regional semi-final game. The Lady Tigers hosted the Port St. Joe Lady Tiger Sharks on February 13.
The Blountstown Lady Tigers hosted the Port St. Joe Lady Tiger Sharks on Thursday the 13th. The Lady Tigers were not gracious host by defeating the Lady Tiger Sharks by a score of 60-18. Once again pressure defense and offensive execution were the difference in the outcome of the game. Leading scorers for the Lady Tigers were Cy smith 25 points, Jaharra Pennywell 11 points, Jaylynn Copeland 9 points Khloe Johnson 8 points and Jill Davis 5 points. The Lady Tigers hosted the Malone Lady Tigers on February 18 with the win.
The Blountstown Lady Tigers hosted the Malone Lady Tigers on February the 18. This game was the fourth time these two teams had played this season. This game was for the Regional Championship and an opportunity to play in the Final Four for a State Championship in Lakeland, Fl. The game started out being a close contest. The score after the first quarter was tied at 13-13. The defensive pressure from the Blountstown Lady tigers begin to wear down Malone. The second and third quarters were controlled by Blountstown, the half time score was 33-21, Blountstown with the lead. Blountstown came out with the same defensive mind set they ended the half with and outscored Malone 18-7 in the third quarter. The game ended with a running clock. The Final score was Blountstown 61, Malone 35. Leading scorers were Cy Smith 29 points, Jaylynn Copeland 14 points, Jill Davis 7 points, Jaharra Pennywell 6 points, Khloe Johnson 3 points and Tiasia Alston 2 points.
The Blountstown Lady Tiges made history that night with the victory. The Lady Tigers advanced to the Final Four in Girls Basketball for the first time. The Lady Tigers will Play number one seed Wildwood Wildcats on Wednesday the 26 at 1:00 PM eastern time. The Ladies will leave from Blountstown High School on Tuesday the 25 at 8:30. Please come out and give these Ladies a big send off as they leave to bring home the State Championship.
