BHS defeats LCHS; district tourney set

The Blountstown Tiger basketball team ended their regular season with a win over Liberty County, 71-59. The BHS gym was packed for the game dubbed “Hoops for Hope” with players, cheerleaders and fans decked out in pink to raise funds for the battle against breast cancer. Larry Jackson led the Tigers with 19 points, followed by Marquel Thomas with 16. Jawon Mosley and Rontravius Brown each came in with 10. Miah Jackson had eight, Saad Faruqui brought in six, and Caleb Mills added two. “We started out a little shaky and I think some of the other outside festivities occupied our time,” says Coach Tony Davis. “Overall, it was a big win against a rival school. We had a better second half and I’m proud of the guys the way they fought.” Earlier in the week, the Tigers defeated Franklin County on the road, 67-57. Larry Jackson led with 19 points. Miah Jackson was next in line with 13. Faruqui provided nine. Mosley and Chris Davis offered six points a piece. Brown and Thomas had five points each. Roosevelt Martin came in with four. The Tigers will be hosting the district tournament next week with BHS going up against Port St. Joe Tuesday in the first round. Game time is 4:30 p.m. In Lady Tiger news, the girls went up against Rutherford last Monday night for senior night and lost, 57-26. Alexis Speights led the girls with 14 points. Demeka Martin brought in seven and Kassie Wood added five. The Lady Tigers are hosting the district tournament this week.
