Area witnesses heavy snow and below normal temperatures

Over the years, some residents have taken their kids to south Alabama to witness a few rare snow flakes.  That wasn’t necessary last Tuesday as a cold front moved through our area and dumped several inches of the white stuff on us.  Snowmen were built, snowball fights were wild, schools were closed, and most folks were afraid to drive.  Unlike in 1989 when a few flakes stuck for a few hours, temperatures in the 20’s allowed the accumulation to stay with us until we finally reached the 50’s later in the week and it disappeared.  BHS Head Football Coach Brad Waggoner was at Bowles Field, above, when it was really falling.
