(Altha Girls’ State Weightlifting Qualifiers: Paige Tice, Paige Stone, and Kora McAlpin)
Five lifters advanced from the girls district weightlifting meet hosted by Altha on January 28th to the regional meet in Wewa on February 1. Paige Stone, Paige Tice, Tarrin McCrone, Kora McAlpin, and Alissa Stantt represented Altha well at this last post season meet before the state finals, with Paige Stone emerging as champion of the 139 lb class in the traditional meet. Paige Tice (169#) and Kora McAlpin (UNL) also medaled and advanced to compete in Lakeland on Feb 15.
Altha senior Paige Stone will seek her second state title, and the school’s 20th individual state title, this weekend in Lakeland. Stone, who hasn’t suffered a loss in 2 years, also medaled as a freshman and sophomore, before winning last year. Senior Paige Tice and Sophomore Kora Mcalpin will compete in the second flight of the day. It is McApin’s first trip and Tice’s third trip to the finals. Tice finished 4th last year at state and once again has a chance to medal in her farewell meet. Results will be in next week’s paper.
